Frequently Asked Questions
Why classical music?
Classical music is often made inaccessible by the narrow demographic it primarily caters to, and the sheer amount of restricted information we associate with it. Approaching it as a first-time listener can feel like learning a whole new language; Program Notes is about focusing on the words we can understand written from perspectives we can relate to.

Do I need to be a musician to join?
Not at all! Program Notes is for everyone from newcomers to experienced professionals. It’s for anyone with a story to share or who just wants to engage with classical music in a new way.
Our goal is to make classical music accessible to a wider audience. The way we speak and write about it seems like the best place to start.
How can I find an old post?
You can search for composers, titles, or authors using the search icon in the top right-hand corner.
Can I write about my own compositions?
Yes! As long as you have a shareable recording to link to in your post, you’re welcome to write about your own music.
Can I post more than one story?
Certainly! Once you’ve set up your contributor profile, you can draft as many stories as you’d like. Stories are published in the order they’re submitted, so just be sure to send us an email with a link to the piece you’re working on as soon as you get started.
Can I get paid for my stories?
Program Notes is currently not-for-profit and only offers free membership to help more people hear your story. While you can’t get paid directly to share your story, you’ll have the ability to link to any of your other projects, socials, or virtual tip jars at the top of each post.
We’ll be exploring paid partnerships and other member benefits further down the line as our library and audience continue to grow.
How can I support the project?
The best way to help is by sharing your own story. Growing our library and spreading the word is how we get more people reading, writing, and connecting with classical music!
